I got a crazy idea in my mind late last week. Woul I got a crazy idea in my mind late last week. Wouldn’t it be neat if I could offer you a FREE mini-course before the launch of the Authentically YOU course on May 23? (That’s Monday—yay!) I knew it would be a stretch to pull it off, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try…so I went for it. And it’s ready! You can now access this free course, titled Overcoming Overwhelm, and I think (hope) you’re going to love it. Because, hello…who among us feels overwhelmed a lot of the time? 🙋🏼‍♀️It’s a short, 45 minute course that includes 3 research-based but real-life applicable lessons I’ve learned for myself that really help me when I’m feeling the pressures of life. And I know they will help you too. This course is in an online video format that you can access from any computer or mobile device anytime. I’ve put a link to grab it free in my profile. I hope you’ll join me for it. (And tag others or send this post to friends if you think they’d love it too.) Happy weekend my friends!
Two different things this morning challenged my st Two different things this morning challenged my strong convictions about the work I am trying to do, and it was making me edgy and irritable. The thing about being immersed in research about authenticity and connection is that I understand the importance of the things that I spend time teaching and researching, but that doesn’t mean that I am always perfect at living that way.  Today I was falling short. And I could feel it. I can teach you all the research about body image, for example, and why you shouldn’t let the standards of the world bring you down, how you should love the body you are in for what it does for you, not what it looks like.  But that doesn’t mean I always feel that way.  I needed a pick me up, so I turned to a speech given 5 years ago by a woman at the university I attend. I’ve honestly already listened to it 5-6 times before. But I needed it again.  Listening to her turned things around for me today. Here’s why. She’s just a woman who is doing her best to navigate life and to be good person. And in doing that, she gave a speech that has carried me through hard times more than once.  And it struck me that maybe the things I do or the way I live my life could really make a difference for other people in similar ways. But I’ve got to show up and keep trying.  I hope I can be that person for someone else. And I hope you can too.   Being a strong woman who is willing to do the work that you are called to do, day after day, whatever that is, matters. Today that woman was strong for me. Tomorrow maybe you and I can be strong too.  Let’s be that woman for someone else. Who is with me in this?
I go to the gym regularly. I take Barre classes, s I go to the gym regularly. I take Barre classes, strength and toning classes, do Zumba 💃🏼, or get on the elliptical, and I love it all. I wish I could say that I am solely motivated by a desire to keep my body (and mind) healthy and strong. And that’s part of it for sure. But reality is that body image is a real struggle for me, as it is for as many as 97% of women. Part of why I go relates to that. We’ve been taught to believe that our bodies are inseparable from our worth—and that’s just not true. You are not what your body looks like. Your weight doesn’t define you. Your hair and nails and clothes and eyelashes don’t define you. Don’t allow society’s false ideals for what a woman “should” look like dictate how you feel about yourself. You’re better than that. I’m the first to admit that this isn’t an easy mindset to hold to—but I also believe it truly matters and it’s worth fighting for.
